XAPHOON JONES MIXTAPE VOL 2

The weather is FINALLY getting warmer outside and I've been blasting this mixtape in my car all day. These are a few of my favorites.

THE ART OF THE TITLE

Watching the beginning title of a movie or a show is almost like the foreshadowing technique in a novel. You are fed information through scenes, words, and pictures that tell you a little more of what you are about to see. Remember the colorful cartoon scenes played in the beginning of Catch Me If You Can? Or the symbolism of the feather that lands on Forrest at the start and floats away at the end of Forrest Gump. For television, the opening of Mad Men shows a black silhouette of the main character falling from a skyscraper and past seductive images of women, a glass of whiskey, and advertising slogans from the 60s. This video is called ‘The Art of The Title‘ and is directed by Ian Albinson. Basically, it is a compilation of some of the best title designs in movies throughout history. Enjoy!

PHANTOGRAM - WHEN I'M SMALL

[DIVERSE DESIGNS] CHRISTIAN DIOR, 1957

"What strikes me about this image is the maturity of the look of the models. Their faces say, 'I've seen a lot of the world, and I'm confident in my style, and I possess a sophistication and beauty that is enviable.' This is in stunning contrast to corresponding photo shoots today. Today's editorial models appear to be barely out of puberty. Their faces say, 'I've been to a few rock concerts, I use a lot of illegal substances, and the closest I come to a book is reading the wall on my Facebook page.' C'est la vie…" -Tim Gunn

RUNAWAY

"Do you know what I hate most about your world? Anything that is different you try to change. You try to tear it down."

Found my Halloween costume for next year.. Of course, I'll have to add more feathers to certain areas.

McQ World

MOLLY SMITH is just a gem as she dons Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall/Winter 2011, does some strange stuff, and discusses her opinion on inexplicable topics such as dreams and dying. The hauntingly beautiful song in the video is called Set Your Arms Down by Warpaint, a group whom I've recently fell in love with (many thanks to Katelynn and Julia for turning me on to them). Shot by Corey Adams in Derbyshire, England.

“More than anyone else in the city, he has the whole visual history of the last 40 or 50 years of New York. It’s the total scope of fashion in the life of New York.” - Oscar de la Renta

For decades, Bill Cunningham has contributed so much to the world of fashion and street photography. As a photographer and columnist for The New York Times, he is one of the first to make a career out of a rather simple task: following around and capturing unexpected moments of well known individuals in the industry. His work creates a chronicle history of fashion trends and styles through pictures. Not only has he photographed many celebrities and socialites, but also people that walk the streets of Manhattan every day.

I would love to see this documentary on him.. but as of right now, it's being played at Film Forum in New York :( I checked online and found out that it will be featured sometime in June (exact date unannounced) at the  DETROIT FILM THEATRE, which is also a part of The DIA. I always enjoy going over there from time to time. It's really not that bad of an area and I've found a lot of interesting places there (MOCAD, CASS CAFE, HEIDELBERG PROJECT). If you like art, I suggest you take some time off from your busy schedules and visit!

BADASS MC

Kate Moss gave them something to talk about as she wrapped up the LOUIS VUITTON FALL 2011 show, puffed on her cigarette, and strutted down the runway. My reaction? Surprised at first, but a well expected sight to see from her.

JAI PAUL - BTSTU

I've been playing this song on repeat for the past few days. It's very mellow and has an interesting mix of heavily-layered synths and drums. Think Prince meeting MIA. The Intuition Remix is also pretty solid, CLICK.
Starting from the top: Dries Van Noten, Dieppa Restrepo, vintage Norma Kamali, Dieppa Restrepo.

Oxford flats are my new obsession.

this is exactly what I need right now.

I would have been the girl sobbing and being pulled by the crowd.
